Similarly to the westward route towards Rateče, the cycling trail follows the route of the former railway eastwards to Jesenice. Given how easy the route is, it is especially suitable for families. The main challenge of our trip comes from the route’s length, as it also climbs slightly on the way back along the course of the Sava Dolinka River towards Kranjska Gora.
The route winds through the valley, between the green-wooded Karawanke Mountains on one side and the rocky, towering Julian Alps on the other. A beautiful view of the Špik range appears shortly after we leave Kranjska Gora and continue along the trail leading across meadows. The next village you pass through is Mojstrana, from where the mighty three valleys of Vrata, Kot and Krma converge southwards towards the foothills of Mount Triglav. In Mojstrana, we once again cross to the right bank of the Sava Dolinka River and cycle alongside the main road for the next two kilometres. After a few minutes riding through the village, we continue past the Church of St. Clement, then just before the bridge over the Sava Dolinka River, we turn right onto the cycling trail. Passing beneath the steep slopes of Mežakla, we ride along the Sava River to Jesenice.
