Along the Pišnica River, passing Lake Jasna and following the main road that leads over the Vršič Pass to the Primorska side, the route heads deep into the heart of the mountains that enclose yet another southward valley – one of many in the Upper Sava River Valley.
The entire way from Kranjska Gora onwards, riders are treated to the breathtaking backdrop of the towering Julian Alps, along with its dramatic cliffs as they cycle towards them. Soon after Lake Jasna and just before the bridge over the Pišnica, we turn left onto a gravel road that winds along the lively stream. The white pebbles glisten in the sunlight, and beckon us to cool off in the crystal-clear, refreshing water. From time to time, the road gets covered in a layer of gravel carried down from the mountains by torrents. After a pleasant and gentle ride, the valley opens up before our eyes, and we’re faced with a final ascent from here to the mountain lodge in Krnica. Our journey ends at the mountain hut, as only hiking trails lead beyond this point to the summits that frame this stunning valley. You’ll want to tilt your head back to take in the soaring peaks of Prisank, Razor, and Škrlatica, the highest among them. And then it’s time to go back the way you came, now experiencing this unforgettable landscape from a different angle.
