One of the most scenic tours in the vicinity of Kranjska Gora, with beautiful views of the Julian Alps accompanying us throughout our journey. To enjoy this view, we kick off our ride with a solid climb out of Podkoren, grinding our way up towards the Korensko sedlo pass. Just before the pass, we turn right onto a forest road, which will lead us with a moderate incline along the southern side of the western part of the Karawanke ridge. Thanks to the beautiful views of the Julian Alps that open up behind Brvoge, where the TV tower stands, the cycling will pass quickly. The route keeps us on our toes, weaving across slopes cut by ravines, while we get front-row seats to the grassy ribbons of Kranjska Gora’s ski runs snaking up toward Vitranc. When we hit the Jureževa planina alpine pasture, there’s a left fork for Vošca – perfect for a quick hike-a-bike, since it’s not rideable. We always make a point to check out the panorama over the Carinthian side, too. Not long after, another left takes us up to the Blekova planina alpine pasture, where the reward is more epic vistas before we reach the top. The climb wraps up in the Železnica Valley, with the Jerman stream guiding our descent. Heads up: the drop is rather technical, and a suitable challenge for riders with solid skills and proper kit. Others are advised to retrace their route back down.
