This year, we will celebrate International Mountain Day in the distinguished company of Matevž Lenarčič, mountaineer, photographer, writer, environmentalist, and pilot, who has circumnavigated the globe three times in an ultralight aircraft. Irena Cerar and Mojca Volkar Trobevšek will chat with the “lone aviator,” and we’ll also watch the documentary Dark Cover of the World, made in 2022 and directed by Amir Muratović. The documentary will help us understand the effects of black carbon, the second largest contributor to global warming.
The event will conclude with the opening of the #LjubimGore photography exhibition and the award ceremony for the authors of the best photographs submitted to the Slovenian Mountaineering Association’s photography competition.
The evening is being organized as part of the Beremo gore (We Read Mountains) reading club, which is now in its third season at the Slovenian Alpine Museum under the leadership of Irena Cerar and Mojca Volkar Trobevšek. This year, we also read Smisel in spoznanje, Patagonija (Meaning and Insight, Patagonia) – a classic book by Matevž Lenarčič. The club operates under the auspices of the Alpine Convention and its initiative Brati gore (Reading Mountains).
