The hike begins in front of the Kranjska Gora Tourist Information Centre. We walk along the Borovška cesta road, passing the Ramada Resort Kranjska Gora and Hotel Kompas, until we reach the lower station of the Vitranc 1 four-seater chairlift. From here, we can either continue on foot or take the chairlift for the first part of the ascent. At the upper station of the Vitranc 1 chairlift, we can rest at the Bedančev dom hut. We then climb via a cart track through the forest and ski slopes to the upper station of the Podkoren four-seater chairlift. From there, we follow a steep trail through the forest beneath the old Vitranc 2 chairlift. After about an hour of hiking, we reach Vitranc, where we can take a break at the Mojčin dom hut. The route continues along the ridge, with several ups and downs, finishing at the scenic summit of Ciprnik, which takes about another hour.
The Vitranc ridge is home to the western capercaillie, a large and primarily ground-dwelling forest grouse. A quiet zone has been established with special rules for visitors in order to protect this sensitive species. The presence of Humans is especially disruptive during the mating season, from March 15 to June 15, so visitors are asked not to visit the Vitranc ridge during this period.
