Kranjska Gora among the most attractive ski resorts in Eastern and Central Europe

The website of the internationally renowned Snow Magazine recently published an article entitled “Look East | The Best Ski Resorts in Central and Eastern Europe 2026,” in which journalist Tristan Kennedy reveals a list of the most attractive ski resorts in Eastern and Central Europe.

Among the selected destinations, which in his opinion offer the perfect combination of natural beauty, sporting spirit, and alpine authenticity, is Kranjska Gora – a Slovenian mountain beauty that has been synonymous with winter holidays in the Julian Alps for decades. Kennedy describes it as a picturesque Alpine village on the border between Slovenia, Italy, and Austria, which charms visitors with its backdrop of snow-capped peaks, well-groomed ski slopes, and rich sporting tradition, as it has been the venue for the Alpine Skiing World Cup for many years.

In the article, the author highlights Kranjska Gora as ideal for families, as it offers a wide selection of gentle and clear slopes suitable for children, beginners, and recreational skiers. At the same time, there are plenty of opportunities for more experienced skiers looking for varied terrain and scenic descents at the foot of mighty mountains. In addition to skiing, Kennedy also points out the special atmosphere of the place, where visitors can relax in numerous restaurants, cafes, and hotels that maintain a warm, homely environment and offer authentic Slovenian cuisine and hospitality.

In his opinion, one of the important advantages of Kranjska Gora is its exceptional accessibility. Kranjska Gora is less than an hour’s drive from Ljubljana, making it an ideal destination for both short winter getaways and longer holidays. Due to its location at the border triangle, it also offers numerous opportunities to explore the wider area, from nearby lakes and valleys to national parks and neighbouring Alpine villages.

Kranjska Gora’s inclusion in Snow Magazine’s list of the most attractive ski resorts in Eastern and Central Europe is an important recognition for this Slovenian Alpine destination, which successfully combines a rich sporting tradition, natural beauty, and modern tourist facilities. At the same time, it confirms that Kranjska Gora is one of those winter destinations that, even in an era of global trends, has managed to retain its authenticity, homeliness, and special alpine charm, which is why visitors love to return to it again and again.
