With the global health crisis and travel restrictions marking 2020, my hope and wish for this fresh new year is that we are once more able to safely and freely explore the lands at home and abroad. I feel fortunate to have Kranjska Gora at my doorstep. Here’s a list of things that make it one of the most inspiring tourist gems in Slovenia. It’s a place where you can easily find a piece of nature just for yourself and here’s why I love to return to it, again and again.

#1 Photographer’s Dream – All Year Long

Kranjska Gora is a sight to see at any time of the year. From autumn foliage to green spring pastures, and summer sun peeking through lush trees, making for awe-inspiring sunsets. Snowfall leaves one breathless, as it transforms Kranjska Gora into a pure winter fairytale. Mount your photography gear or get your mobile phone camera ready – each and every visit will make you covet for more. What is the best time to visit Kranjska Gora? Anytime. Always.

#2 Abandon Your Notions of Distance and Time

Slovenia is a small country and you can certainly experience it even on a short-term vacation. When you plan your trip to Slovenia, rest assured that whatever you want to explore next, it is only a short distance away. Kranjska Gora, located at the heart of Triglav National Park, should be on top of your list as it is less than an hour drive away from Slovenia’s main international airport, and the capital city of Ljubljana. With natural gems scattered throughout, expect it to bring out the adventurer in you. Make sure to give yourself ample time to get willingly lost in its beautiful forests, walking by alpine streams and lakes, and soak in the beauty of Julian Alps. And certainly, make sure to take pictures, and allow them to basically make themselves.

#3 Multitude of Experiences

Kranjska Gora’s unique geographical position and geological structure cater to whatever your idea of perfect vacation may be. For those, coveting for the most meditative and relaxed immersions in nature to all of you adrenaline junkies out there, there are countless possibilities to truly make your holidays on your own terms. Whether it’s walking, hiking, mountaineering, riding bikes through alpine landscapes, or enjoying a broad spectrum of winter sports, Kranjska Gora delivers. My personal favourite is Juliana Trail. I walked a few stages in the summer months to challenge myself and document nature in its summer sparkle. Being immersed into beautiful landscapes, starting in Kranjska Gora, all around Julian Alps, is one of my most unforgettable vacations. That said, it certainly makes dipping your tired toes into a spring or relaxing with a good book by Jasna lake all the more rewarding.

#4 Gems Scattered all Around

You may know main Kranjska Gora spots, such as lake Jasna, Peričnik waterfall, or Zelenci nature reserve. What you might not know, however, is that there are little hidden treasures all over the place. If you like to play it by ear, and have a child’s curiosity as to where an unknown little forest path may lead – you can easily find yourself in front of a solitary waterfall, crystal clear stream, or a lake where you are likely to be the only visitor. If you love bringing home photographs of stunning sceneries, known only to few, simply follow nature’s sounds.

#5 After Lockdown – Let Yourself Fully Relax and be Transformed

Undoubtedly, nature is the best cure for the consequences of our hectic modern life, especially in the daunting times we find ourselves, globally. Locked away in our apartments and houses, I have a new-found appreciation for my time spent in nature. If you’re anything like me, you probably want to go on vacations which replenish your body, mind, and soul. “Green Slovenia” is not just a tagline. It’s a fact that makes us Slovenes proud of our pristine nature. But most importantly, our natural environment has a unique ability to change us. Nature-bathing, eating delicious and healthy local delicacies, and staying in hotels and lodgings in the heart of Triglav National Park are all guaranteed to instill a new sense of replenishment, vigor, and vitality. Whenever I am surrounded by the magnificence of the Alps, listening to the white noise of the streams or photographing reflections of early-morning lake Jasna, I return home a different person.

As we turn a new leaf

In our daily lives we so rarely get to experience and feel our connection to something grander than our individual selves. Kranjska Gora is that link to nature’s transcending power, its healing and cleansing ability that reignites our connection with what is primal to our lived experience as human beings. Kranjska Gora offers that at every step of your stay here and its serenity is the good kind of contagious.

Let us know if you plan to visit us, and we will be more than happy to help you plan your perfect stay in the embrace of Julian Alps.
