The Municipality of Kranjska Gora has successfully applied and completed the WiFi4EU project for a €15,000 voucher to set up a free WiFi network. The contractor for the network installation was Telekom Slovenije d.d.
The European Commission’s WiFi4EU programme aims to bring free Wi-Fi to European citizens and visitors everywhere in Europe, in public places such as parks, squares, libraries, museums, health centres and other public facilities. This is why the WiFi4EU programme will fund the installation of state-of-the-art Wi-Fi equipment in centres of public life with a budget of €120 million over the period 2018-2020. Due to the epidemic, the programme has been extended and in February 2023, our municipality was covered by WiFi4EU.
The WiFi4EU scheme will provide our citizens and visitors with high quality free high-speed internet access.
While the EU will finance the cost of equipment and installation of the Wi-Fi hotspots, the municipality will provide the connectivity (internet subscription) and maintenance of the equipment for at least three years.
The Municipality of Kranjska Gora provides free WiFi4EU at 10 locations around the municipality.
WiFi4EU access points are located in the Municipality of Kranjska Gora, Tourist Board Kranjska Gora, Vitranc Hall, Ljudski dom Kranjska Gora, ASK Kranjska Gora, KS Rateče, Kavka Planica, KS Gozd Martuljek, KS Dovje Mojstrana, Slovenian Alpine Museum Mojstrana.
With the WiFi4EU hotspots, the municipality of Kranjska Gora has become part of the wider WiFi4EU network, recognised throughout Europe.
