Village day as it was once lived can be experienced at the Village Day in Rateče.
The Village Day is a cultural and ethnological event organised every year on 15 August by the Rateče Tourist Association in the village square (on Gorica).
Local women and men wear national costumes (many of them are over 100 years old), which they gladly show to tourists and visitors. Particularly interesting is the demonstration of the making of “žoki” – the original Rateče footwear. The villagers show the whole process of wool processing and the making of ‘žoki’.
One of the most beautiful local ethnological events starts with a procession of villagers in national costumes from the Šurc tavern to the square in Gorica. This is followed by a demonstration of old farming tasks, a performance by a choir, a folklore group, zither players and accordionists …
See how the “žoki”, the original Rateče shoes, are made, buy some handicraft products and visit the ethnological collection in Kajžnk’s house!
