On 20 and 21 May, Kranjska Gora and Planica will once again host the world’s most famous obstacle race series – SPARTAN TRIFECTA WEEKEND brings fun for the whole family and recreation for all lovers of jogging and quality leisure time, and the world champions of obstacle course running (OCR) will once again compete in the backdrop of the Triglav National Park.

After last year’s premiere, Dolina pod Poncami will once again host the SPARTAN TRIFECTA VIKEND in less than a month, the full-blooded edition of Slovenia’s most famous obstacle race series. Last year, over 1,700 competitors from 34 countries conquered one of the most beautiful and challenging courses on the calendar, with our star Rea Kolbl and world team champion Jeremie Gachet winning the elite class.
The world’s best obstacle runners are coming to Slovenia again this year, but Spartan is a great challenge for everyone, as it is suitable for all fitness levels, the essence of Spartan is to test your abilities and push your limits. And it’s even more exciting when you’re not out on the course alone, but with a group of friends who encourage each other on the course and overcome the challenges together.
Obstacle course races (OCR) or ‘obstacleathlons’ are one of the fastest growing sports disciplines in the world, and are already knocking on the door of the Olympic family. Although Spartan Race has also become a serious professional sport in recent years, with competitions all over the world and a world championship for which only the best qualify, obstacle races are above all a great diversion for recreational running training and fun for the whole family or a group of friends.

With different difficulty levels – BEAST (21 km + 30 obstacles), ELITE (11.5 km, 25 obstacles) and SPRINT (5 km + 20 obstacles), TRIFECTO is completed by anyone who can complete all three distances in one weekend – and difficulty groups, there is a challenge for everyone, but it’s all about having fun, beating yourself and having an unforgettable experience.
Simon Rožnik, Director of Extrem, the agency that organises Spartan Race Slovenia: “There has never been any doubt that this is a quality sports and entertainment event with great tourism and promotional potential for the destination of Kranjska Gora and Slovenia as a whole. This year, over 2,000 competitors from all over the world have already registered for Spartan Race Slovenia, and even more countries than last year will be coming here. One of the main magnets of the race is the beautiful natural scenery, which few other venues in the world can match, and this, along with the good organisation and the hospitable locals, was the main point of view of the participants of last year’s premiere.”
Rea Kolbl, a nearly unbeatable competitor over the longest distances, also brought obstacle races closer to Slovenians. She invites you to try out at least the shortest distance in the open class, to get to know this wonderful sport that combines running, strength training and agility. For children, the focus is on movement, fun and socialising rather than competition.
