Karlin were published in Slovenian translation and in the original German by the Celje Mohorjeva družba and the Drava publishing house in Klagenfurt. In order to make the Travel Diaries of Alma M. Karlin available to readers all over Slovenia, a short travelling version of the exhibition has been prepared and will be on display at the Kranjska Gora Library until the end of November 2023.
HOME SCIENCE SEPTEMBER. Jerneja Jezernik / Walking in the familiar places – the travel diaries of Alma M. Karlin 1934 – 1936. Literary evening at the opening of the travelling exhibition of the Celje Central Library.
“The blue-green water of the Pišnica River, which in my earliest childhood had formed a lake, but now must have been nothing but a narrow stream in the middle of a sea of snow-white gravel, a bare, jagged, precipitous mountain, still partly covered with snow, conifer-dense hills, a glistening, dazzling old riverbed, blue spring skies and peaceful solitude were enchanting, and Thea noticed it too: Nowhere else was the air so fresh, so resinous, so bracing, so running-inducing as in Kranjska Gora! ” Alma M. Karlin, as we have never met her before.
Jerneja Jezernik, a researcher of the life and work of Alma M. Karlin, translator of her works into Slovenian and author of several books about this remarkable woman, will talk to us about Alma’s rich literary and spiritual heritage and how she experienced Kranjska Gora, where she and her parents went on holiday as children and later, when she was already a famous writer and world traveller, she loved to return to Kranjska Gora in the 1930s.
