Saint Nicholas, the first of December’s good men, is surely the most popular saint among children. But only the hard-working ones get presents, while the naughty ones are carried away by the terrible Krampus. Hairy, scary to look at, horned, with chains of flowers and horns all over the road and the houses. The tradition of the krampus tours has survived to the present day, but it is increasingly being superseded by the tourist event, the Fire Spectacle, a meeting of the krampuses of the three lands. Jasim Suljanovič captured these in his photographic lens, and we have joined forces with him for a new temporary exhibition at the Kranjska Gora Museum: we will add an ethnological pinch from the traditions of the Gornjesavska Valley to the photographs of modern-day krampuses. In the spirit of St Nicholas’ Day tradition, we will bake the krampuses in the bread oven.
You are invited to the Liznjek Homestead in Kranjska Gora on Saturday, 2 December 2023:
- An ethnological workshop on baking krampuses in a wood-burning oven at 3 pm.
- Opening of the photographic-ethnological exhibition “Fearsome Krampus- Ancient Demons” at 17:00.
Workshop participation: € 6.
Exhibition opening: free admission.
