A new season of unforgettable sports events is ahead of us in nearby Planica. In 2022 we will see as many as four high-profile international competitions. We strongly wish that this winter will be more indulgent, so that those without whom the competitions are not quite the same will be able to return to the valley under Ponce and Kranjska Gora – these are the fans!
In just over two months, Planica will host competitions in all three Nordic disciplines – Cross-Country skiing, Nordic combined and ski jumping or flying. In total, close to 500 athletes will compete on tracks and jumping and flying hills, and they will be joined by several times as many members of the accompanying teams. Thus, we can talk about proper preparation events before the most important sporting event in the history of Slovenia – the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, which will be held in 2023.
NORDIC WEEKEND – FIS CROSS-COUNTRY AND NORDIC COMBINED WORLD CUP
22. 01. 2022 – 23. 01. 2022
The very first event will attract the world elite of two sports to the Upper Sava Valley. On the fourth weekend of the New Year, we will be able to see Cross-Country skiers, and for the first time in history, Nordic combined World Cup competitions.
Along the Cross-Country tracks of the Nordic Center, we expect loud cheering, since the competitions in sprint and skiathlon will, as always, certainly take care of exciting battles. The individual competitions of Nordic combined athletes are also going to be real treats. One of the most challenging sport of all, the eternal search for balance between the right feelings when jumping and strength in Cross-Country skiing, is a recipe for an unforgettable event.
FIS SKI JUMPING AND CROSS-COUNTRY CONTINENTAL CUP
29. 01. 2022 – 30. 01. 2022 & 04. 02. 2022 – 06. 02. 2022
(Postponed due to current epidemiological situation in Slovenia – competition for men will take place on February 26th and 27th.)
Continental Cup competitions on the last weekend of January and the first of February will once again bring resounding names to Planica and Kranjska Gora. This will be an important ‘field test’, on which battles for World Championships medals will take place. We will first see action in the air, as the jumpers will chase distances on the 139-meter Bloudek giant hill, and a week later the Cross-Country skiers will try themselves out in demanding ascents and fast descents.
FIS SKI JUMPING WORLD CUP FINALS
24. 03. 2022 – 27. 03. 2022
At the end of March, ‘The spectacle in Planica’ will take place, a competition that took Slovenia’s name throughout the world and placed it side by side, as well as at the head of countries that raise Nordic sports to a higher level with every new event. Some of the ski jumpers landed in triumph, some got burned, but all of them fought fearlessly with the ‘Letalnica’. We believe that these brave athletes will be seen live by anyone who wants to.
On March 27, the best supporters, loyal visitors, and fans of Cross-Country skiing, ski jumping and Nordic combined will leave the valley below the Ponce mountains. In 332 days, they will return and start writing a very special story about Planica.
