Triglav is Ours, talk and book presentation by Dušan Škodič, 9 February 2024, 6 pm.
The book sheds light on the beginnings of organised mountaineering and mountaineering in Slovenia through a number of interesting stories. It reflects the reality of life in the then ethnically colourful Austro-Hungarian Monarchy.
With the accidental discovery of the archives in Innsbruck, new facts and behind-the-scenes developments between Slovenians and Germans during the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy have come to light. The nationalist clashes from the valleys were also reflected in the mountain world, but not everything was as black and white as we were taught.
Triglav existed in a liquid aggregate state, and its north face was already being climbed at the highest level before the First World War, not to mention the railway.
The author of the book Triglav is Ours, Dušan Škodič, also known to lovers of mountaineering literature for his works People in the Mountains, Laughing from the Mountains and Border on the Watershed, will explain why we did not know this.
You are invited to the Slovenian Alpine Museum on Friday, 9 February 2024, at 6 pm.
