You are cordially invited to a screening of the film Mission Mangart – before they were soldiers, they were skiers, which will be screened on 14 February at 7 pm at the Slovenian Alpine Museum.
The film follows the events after the German surrender in World War II, in May 1945, and shows how the 10th Mountain Division of the US Army ended up as a peacekeeper on the Yugoslav border in the Julian Alps. In July 1945, Josip Broz Tito pushed the Yugoslav army across the Italian border into the Mangart area and tried to hold the line there.
During the earlier fighting, the 10th Mountain Division had acquired a stock of German ski equipment, in the hope that it would one day prove useful. As they surveyed the huge snowfield below Mangart, they remembered that before they were soldiers, they were skiers.
Mission Mangart was written, directed and produced by Chris Anthony, himself a professional skier.
There is no entrance fee, you are cordially invited!
