DESCRIPTION
The beautiful land of the Karawanken mountain peaks is enriched by an exceptional natural and cultural heritage. The natural wealth of the holy mountain of Carinthia, which was once the refuge of King Matthias’s army, has sustained many miners and their families for more than three centuries as they extracted lead and zinc ore from the bottom of the Peca The power of the Meža River and its tributaries powered blacksmiths’ hammers and allowed ironworks to flourish, producing railway rails and other steel products. Ravne na Koroškem developed into a modern steel town. It is home to an iron museum and the urban space is decorated with Forma Viva steel sculptures. Uršlja Gora, with the highest church in Slovenia, rises above the town. From the top, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Meža Valley and Pohorje. You will hear the fascinating stories of some of the preserved cultural monuments and tales that reveal the interesting life of the people between the Peca and the Pohorje, and discover the possibilities of new experiences in Carinthia.
