You are cordially invited to a lecture by mountaineer and mountain guide, Ales Česen, entitled Gašerbrum III: The eight-thousandth peak that isn’t, which will take place on Friday, 11 October 2024, at 18:00 in the Slovenian Alpine Museum.
The idea of climbing a new route to the highest peak that is not an eight-thousand-peak came to Aleš 8 years ago, when he was climbing in its immediate vicinity – on Broad Peak and Gašerbrum 4. The first attempt to realise a new route on its west ridge came a few years later – in 2022. After considerable efforts, the expedition was unsuccessful. Although he is not in the habit of returning to failed objectives of major expeditions, he and Tom Livingstone did return to the base of the mountain this summer for a revision exam.
Aleš will share his story of the climb with us.
