Rateče costume
Rateče costume in person!
In the Kajžnk House, as part of the permanent collection of the Ethnological Heritage of Rateče, festive and everyday Rateče costumes are presented on the premises of the house.
This costume is one of the few in Slovenia still preserved and occasionally worn by the inhabitants. People from Rateče are (still) proud of their heritage! So if you want to see the Rateče costume in the flesh, you must attend the Village Day in Rateče. Alternatively, you can watch a recent film about the costumes at Kajžnk House.
Žoki shoes
Original footwear for the Rateška winter!
At the Village Day in Rateče you can see the making of the Rateče ethnological footwear “žoki“!
Local women demonstrate the wool processing processes and how to make the embroidery and the original low shoes – the “žoki”, where the inner part is woven from local wool, sewn with fabric and lined with leather.
A wonderful memory of the Zgornjesavska Valley!
